Kelly Callahan Black

Kelly Callahan Black grew up playing competitive sports locally in Moraga, California. Her ongoing passion for yoga and Pilates has taught her that physical fitness, strength and endurance can come from exercise that is not competitive or negatively created. Positive conscious movement at all levels is harmonious for more than just the body.
 
Kelly holds an MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio/The New School in NYC and is a gifted singer-songwriter. She has taught yoga, Pilates and the healing arts for the past 13 years. She did her advanced Pilates training through Balanced Body University with renowned Pilates innovator Elizabeth Larkam, and at the ABsolute Center in Lafayette.
 

Kelly brings warmth, love and humor to her teaching with a strong emphasis on building community. She instructs both private and group Pilates sessions, prenatal Pilates, mat Pilates and Kundalini Yoga. Kelly owns and operates Indigo together with her husband, Eric Black.

Debora Goveia

Debora Goveia of Children’s Moving Arts has taught in the Bay Area for over 25 years. “Miss Debbie” established and co-founded Children’s Moving Arts and brings in-depth experience and training to teaching creative dance, pre-ballet and ballet to dancers of all ages. She has had extensive training in both classical ballet and creative movement for children as well as studying early childhood education. She served as a fine arts consultant for Strandwood Elementary School in Pleasant Hill, and was a teacher, trainer and independent consultant for Dance N’ Arts on-site creative movement and dance classes. She has taught at Habitot in Berkeley, Danspace in Oakland, and Theater Arts and the Jewish Community Center in Walnut Creek.

Eric Black

Indigo Co-Owner Eric Black had the good fortune to be introduced to Pilates in 1992 at the now disbanded Portland Pilates Center, the first of its kind in the Northwest. Eric credits the rhythmic movements and breathing of Pilates for leading him to yoga and meditation. A musician and actor as well, he graduated from The Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied intensively for four years. At Juilliard, his training incorporated many styles of movement along with extensive work in the Alexander Technique, a mind-body release technique that continues to influence his approach to Pilates and the arts.
 

Eric has taught Kundalini Yoga since 2001 and Pilates since 2002. Over the years, he has experienced many styles of Pilates; most recently studying with Elizabeth Larkam through Balanced Body University. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Eric uses Pilates as a highly individualized, holistic training tool, even in a group environment. His students grow tremendously—not only in strength, flexibility and balance—but in kinesthetic awareness, confidence and freedom of movement.

Kelley Denison

Known for her friendly nature and open heart, Kelley began studying mind, body and spirit when she was 3 years old. Her training began in the ballet studio under her teacher and grandmother; the brilliant and inspiring Lareen Fender. She quickly became fascinated with body mechanics and continued to study ballet into her early twenties. She began teaching ballet in 1995 and is currently teaching at The Ballet School of Performing Arts in Walnut Creek. Kelley began her Pilates studies in 2003 and went through Balanced Body University's Comprehensive Teacher Training in 2010. She has been teaching private and group pilates since 2010 and is the proud owner of ZO Studio, a boutique mindful living studio located in Walnut Creek. Kelley is also an avid student of life and chooses to practice Yoga daily. In 2016, Kelley completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training through Just Be Yoga in Walnut Creek. Kelley currently teaches Yoga at Just Be Yoga and is extremely thankful to Jenni Wendell for offering her opportunities to connect with community. Kelley is inspired by living a life in service. Kelley began studying Kundalini Yoga under Kelly Black in 2016. She quickly realized that she had met her next inspiring teacher. Kelley continues to study under Kelly Black and is thrilled to be invited to teach at Indigo Yoga and Pilates. This is a dream come true to join Kelly and Eric Black and connect with this loving community. She is SO excited to meet you. Her favorite quote is by Gandhi and chooses to live her life in this way, and hopes to inspire others to do the same. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." She hopes to meet you soon.
Note: Your Group Reformer Class is located at 1564 Palos Verdes Mall in our Pilates studio. If you are new to Pilates and/or new to Indigo, please contact us at info@myindigoyoga.com prior to signing up for your first group. Basic knowledge of Pilates equipment technique (with recent experience) and/or a minimum of 3 private sessions are required for group participation.

Group Reformer Classes can be fun and social, intensely rigorous, or deeply relaxing—usually all of the above. Because Indigo class sizes are small—no more than 6 students—you’ll receive quality instruction tailored to your body’s needs.

Our groups are open level; however, once we know your particular needs and preferences, we can recommend those groups that will fit you best.
